Cancer is personal to Dr. Sheilane Mabanta, and she knows its effects first-hand. Her own father battled lymphoma when she was a teenager, and died from the disease when she was just 19 years old. Her personal experience as a family member of someone battling cancer inspired Dr. Mabanta to go into a profession where she could make a difference and help others battling the same diagnosis.
Today, Dr. Mabanta is an experience radiation oncologist who treats all kinds of cancers and specializes in her caring, compassionate approach in working with her patients.
Dr. Mabanta graduated cum laude from the University of Notre Dame and earned her doctorate in medicine from Tulane University School of Medicine. She completed a residency in radiation oncology at the Shands Cancer Center in Gainesville, Florida. She has authored many papers and lectured on head and neck cancers, as well as researched new methods of stereotactic radiosurgery. Dr. Mabanta is certified in Radiation Oncology by the American Board of Radiology and is a member of the American College of Radiology and the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology.
Dr. Mabanta is medical director of the Cancer Center at Wise in Decatur, TX, providing the community with highly personalized cancer care in a setting that is close to home.
Dr. Mabanta and her husband, John, a physical therapist, spend many hours in the gym, cheering on daughters Isabel and Ava, who are both competitive gymnasts.
