Healthy Habits That Can Minimize Your Risk of Cancer

Most cancer cases can be prevented by avoiding some of the risk factors. A lot of studies conducted over the past years has found risk factors that can be modified by adopting certain healthy habits. The chances of developing cancer are mostly affected by one’s lifestyle choices. These include healthy diet intake, exercising, and maintaining a healthy weight, among other healthy habits.

Here are more ways to reduce your cancer risk:

Avoid Tobacco Use – Tobacco smoking is linked to various forms of cancer, including pancreatic cancer, kidney, throat, lung, mouth, larynx, bladder and cervical cancer. Second-hand smoke can also increase the risk of developing lung cancer. Avoiding or stopping tobacco use helps you to prevent cancer. If you are a smoker, get advice from the doctor on the best ways and strategies to quit smoking.

Maintain Healthy Weight – Having a healthy way can keep you off from cancers such as prostate, kidney, breast, colon and lung cancer. Physical exercise includes aerobic activities, walking, running and much more.

Eating Healthy – A healthy diet can help you lower your risk of cancer. Eat plenty of vegetables and fruits, including whole grains and beans. Drink alcohol in moderation to avoid colon, kidney, lung, liver and kidney cancers. Limit consumption of processed foods, particularly processed meats. When eating, eat lean and light by selecting foods with very few calories, animal fat and refined sugars.

Get Screened Regularly – Regular screening and self-examination for cancer can help you discover cancer early when it is treatable. You can discuss the best screening method and schedule with your doctor.

Adopting the healthy habits above can help minimize your risks of developing many types of cancer. Some of the habits above are simple to follow in order to get a clean bill of health in the long run.
