Why Exercise is considered as an Integral Part of Cancer Treatment and Recovery
Exercise is an integral and significant part of treatment and recovery for cancer patients. Cancer specialists encourage patients to launch strong retaliatory attacks on the disease with “exercise” as the weapon. Exercising does help in the healing process for cancer patients.
Exercise can help with:
- Inflammation: The muscle mass of the patient’s body is the key factor that controls the inflammatory chemicals released by the cancer cells. A sedentary lifestyle leads to protein loss from the body tissues. Lack of exercises leads to: (a) muscle waste, and (b) destruction of the immune system, both of which turn inflammatory responses into wildfires. One of the unfortunate side–effects of various cancer treatments are Cachexia for which exercising is the best defensive retaliation.
- Glycemia: Sugar helps cancer grow. Exercise lowers insulin resistance, thus reducing sugar levels. Exercise helps remove sugar from the bloodstreams in muscle.
- Oxidative Stress: Cancer exercise specialists inform their patients that slow and steady wins the race. Balance is a very important factor here. The right dosage and type of exercise produces enzymes that reduce free radicals. But, too much exercises can start producing free radicals.
