Common Radiation Treatment Options

There are many ways of treating cancer through radiation. These Radiation Treatment Options are used based the condition of the patient.

Sometimes high energy beams are passed through the cancerous area. This is a process that tries to eliminate any kind of cancer cells that remain even after the tumor is removed. Radiation in this case is delivered to the affected part directly, and care is taken that the cancerous growth does not occur. Usually this kind of radiation treatment is over in 5 days. There are some common side effects like burning of the skin and slight fatigue. This process is called brachytherapy.

There is also external beam therapy which is a common cancer treatment that uses radiation to kill all the cancer cells. With this cancer treatment, a large machine emits radiation towards the cancerous area as it moves around the patient. It does not touch the patient or make the patient radioactive.
